Ways To Save $$ On Home-Brewed Coffee

815735_espresso_cup

Times are tough, but before you give up your daily cup(s) of joe, there are some ways to save.

First, buy a gold filter for your machine. They are inexpensive, long lasting and reduce waste–turns out the ultimate “green” filter is gold.

Second, keep your machinery clean, which will help ensure you get the most taste from your brew.

Third, consider replacing your coffeemaker if you can’t remember when you got it and it’s not up to par (but if  it still makes great coffee, keep it until that changes!). Try switching to a high-quality brewer with a stainless steel carafe (which keeps coffee warmer longer and is less likely to break than a glass carafe).

Fourth, measure twice, brew once. Be precise about the amount of water and groudns you use, and you’ll brew consisten coffee, and exactly as much as you need.

Fifth, consider buying whole beans and grinding them yourself, which makes for a more intense, flavorful brew and will probably mean you’ll use less over time.

Sixth, buy the good stuff (same theory as above). By brewing flavorful coffee, a little will go a long way.
