Coffee Pods
The invention of single-serve or one cup coffee makers several years ago started a trend in coffee maker design that has continued to evolve. The popularity of these coffee makers was immediately evident; however, measuring coffee for these once cup makers was often messy and not always precise. Enter coffee pods to save the day and make one perfect cup of piping hot coffee.
The coffee pod was one of the first pre-measured coffees to be designed for use in single-serve coffee makers and was around before the competitive K-cups. The coffee maker that used these pods was also a new invention. These new coffee makers allowed for a more consistent cup of brewed coffee without having to guess every time.
The level of features available on single-serve coffee makers that use pods varies and depends on how much the consumer is willing to spend. There are commercial pod coffee makers that will empty the used pod into a waste receptacle after brewing and there are home versions that simply brew the coffee using the pod. Some of the more advanced machines let the user set the water temperature, program it to power on in the mornings and power off at a set time as well.
Once the single-serve coffee maker and corresponding pods hit the market a variety of pods started being manufactured. Consumers could choose from a large variety of coffees and hot teas as well as hot chocolates and iced teas. This variety made it possible to please everyone in a group without having to brew multiple pots of coffee.
Coffee drinkers know that having a pot of coffee sit on the burner for hours alters the flavor and will eventually burn it. Using coffee pods to make fresh cups of coffee every time eliminates this and takes the guesswork out of determining if the coffee is fresh or not.
There are other single-serve coffee makers on the market that use their own special coffee-containing mechanism. However, some of these are not eco-friendly and use plastic containers. Pods are basically coffee filters that are sealed with the ingredients inside. These pods will degrade faster than plastic and not be an issue for the Earth’s resources and landfills.
Coffee pod brewers are an excellent choice in one-cup coffee makers that make a variety of hot drinks and are eco-friendly at the same time. The large variety of coffee and hot drinks that can be made using coffee pods makes it an ideal choice for homes and offices. Guests and clients will always have a fresh cup of hot coffee or tea available.
