Finland Drinks the Most Coffee in the World?

I found this video on youtube today about coffee health benefits and statistics. I think it is really interesting because it talks about the effects that coffee has on the body. Now, one thing I thought was interesting was the statistics on who drinks the most coffee!

The video states Finland is in first place with an average drinker consuming 5 cups a day! Wow, that seems like a lot of coffee to me. Typically I’m a one cup or two cup a day max. Anymore than than that I feel the jitters of the coffee and caffeine. Germany and Japan come in a close second and third to those cups per day.

The video is quite short, under 2 minutes, but gives some fun and interesting facts. All this talk about coffee is making me thirsty! I think I shall fire up my trusty Keurig and raise my average to three cups a day!

Van Houtte Apple Caramel Pie Coffee Review

Recently while at Bed Bath & Beyond, my husband purchased a box of Van Houtte Apple Caramel Pie Coffee for me to try. He is very sweet like that and loves to surprise me with little gifts and thoughtful things. I am quite the lucky girl.

So, I received the box of apple pie flavored coffee and immediately had to give it a try. First off the coffee is a light roast that has been artificially flavored. Typically, I enjoyed medium or dark roasts that are naturally flavored with hints of chocolate, berries or nuts. Regardless, I thought this was a such a sweet gift, and I have enjoyed drinking it on occasion.

I see this as the perfect coffee for beginner coffee-drinkers. Or for afternoon or evening coffee drinking. Like I said it is quite a light roast, so it doesn’t pack quite as much punch as I’m used to. Still, I enjoy sipping on it when I’m looking for something on the light side. Here is my short review on this coffee:

Caribou Obsidian Coffee Review

So for about the last three months I have been drinking Caribou Obsidian coffee everyday. Yes, every single day. I love this dark roast coffee and I am so glad my husband picked up for me one morning while shopping at Target.

Caribou Obsidian coffee is a dark roast coffee with natural notes of bittersweet chocolate and tart berries. I drink this everyday from its K-cup form in my trust Keurig. I absolutely love this coffee, and it has been a life saver for dragging my butt out of bed on all these cold winter mornings!

So the following video is me, reviewing this coffee. This is my first video blog post, but I hope to do many more. It is actually pretty fun, and I’m going to work on not sounding too annoying. Hehe… that is actually hard to do in these video review thing-eys. Anyways, here is the review of currently, my favorite coffee for my Keurig!

George - too late for coffee?

It is Monday, and because of that I need to add a little humor to my life. I don’t feel like working, I’d much rather be at home… drinking coffee in a snuggy, so I decided to cruise Youtube. To think of it, I do a lot of Youtube cruising on Mondays, it seems.

So, I was searching on Youtube and found this classic clip from one of my all time favorite shows, Seinfeld. I think I like the show so much because yes, it is quite humorous, but also I like seeing the difference in the way women and men think sometimes.

So in this clip, George was invited up to a date’s apartment for “coffee”. Not thinking about what it could possibly mean (does coffee mean sex?) George declines the offer for some coffee talk. I think I will watch it again, and fetch a fresh cup of coffee. Happy Monday, all!

This video just cracked me up when I found it online. Now, I have to say I honestly have never had Dunkin Donuts coffee. That is probably because, there is not one anywhere in the vicinity of where I live. Well, at least that I know of. I believe you can purchase it in grocery stores now, but I feel like I would need to visit a DD to get the true effect. So, I suppose the next time I’m on vacation I truly need to check out a Dunkin Donuts just for the coffee.

Perhaps, one of the best things about this video is the music. The song is “I Only Have Eyes For You” by The complexions & The Flamingos. It is such a charming song, that really really makes me envision true love. True love for coffee, perhaps?

Coffee Talk – Portlandia Style

I love the indie show, Portlandia! It takes all the funny hipster culture nuances to a new extreme. Poking fun at things like: eating local, being well-read, and always making sure to go green. Taking these “green” ways of life to an exaggerated psychotic level. Things that can get quite annoying if they pressed upon you (maybe I don’t want to recycle!) and then magnified and made fun of. The result is pure comic genus, and I just love it!

Also, being a dire hard lover of Portland in general, I cannot get enough of the show. So here is a funny clip from last season, where the crew of Portlandia is having coffee talk. Basically, they are trying to figure out who is the most well-read.

I have blogged on Kopi Luwak coffee in the past. It is basically coffee that has been digested by the Asian Palm Civet animal, and then excreted. After it has been passed from the animal, the coffee is harvested from the Civet’s feces. Yes, this is coffee that is harvested from poop.

You may be thinking “disgusting”; however, this is the world’s most expensive coffee. It is said to be coffee that is sans any hints of bitterness. This video shows several people trying Kopi Luwak coffee. Most of the reviewers do not find it to be that exciting — which is surprising to me. This coffee costs up to hundreds of dollars per pound.

Coffee Tasting Parties Are Delicious!

One morning as I was sipping my morning latte I was thinking of a fun”themed party” idea. I’ve thrown many wine tasting parties in the past and also tea parties, but why not a coffee tasting party? Often times my friends and I will meet at the local coffee house to chat and relax, so why not bring that into my own home! Here are my thoughts on what my coffee tasting party so successful.

1. I sent out pretty little invitations shaped like coffee cups. I went to the local Target and found cute and quite inexpensive invitations that simply stated “You’re invited!”. I mailed the invitations three weeks before the date of the party. I asked that guests would RSVP any regrets, otherwise I assumed they would show.

2. I set the party for early afternoon in mid-Autumn. Who wants to drink a lot of caffeine late at night or when it is hot as hell out? Well, probably a lot of people, but not me. I think a cool Autumn day is more conducive to drinking hot, steamy coffee.

3. I brought out my collection of eclectic cups, plates and accessories for the party. I find that many people, like myself, have a hodge podge of cups, mugs and even plates. It is perfect for throwing a coffee tasting party as everyone can pick and choose their dinnerware!

4. I had my trusty Keurig by my side! I love the simplicity of the Keurig and how quick and easy you can brew many different kinds of coffee. Another wonderful thing about Keurig is the fact you can brew a plethora of beverages. Some of the guests brought their children, so I had no problem brewing up hot chocolate, apple cider and Chai tea for those who did not wish to drink coffee.

5. I had a variety of creamers, sugars and additions on hand to sweeten up those cups of Joe. I had little pitchers with skim milk, heavy cream and half and half. I also offered brown sugar, raw sugar and vanilla scented sugar (purchased online). I also had a couple different syrups in vanilla and hazelnut flavors.

6. I made sure to serve lots of snacks with the coffee tasting such as: coffee cake (duh!), donuts, biscotti, muffins and even some candied bacon apple tarts.

7. Last on the list is – have fun! We talked, nibbled on sweets and listened to music. It was a lovely and relaxing afternoon.

8. As a “thank you for coming” gift I gave everyone miniature bags of coffee. My local grocery store sells them for a $1 and it brews one pot. I put a little bow on each one and handed them to the guests as they departed.

After the party I received many thank you notes and emails about what a great time everyone had – and for me, that was the best part about the coffee tasting party!

I was looking on youtube today and came across a very informational video on coffee. It’s funny, full of great facts, and very interesting. It explains the harvesting of coffee, caffeine consumption and society’s use of coffee. I love that TPS reports are mentioned here and how important coffee is to most of us in day-to-day functioning.
