This video just cracked me up when I found it online. Now, I have to say I honestly have never had Dunkin Donuts coffee. That is probably because, there is not one anywhere in the vicinity of where I live. Well, at least that I know of. I believe you can purchase it in grocery stores now, but I feel like I would need to visit a DD to get the true effect. So, I suppose the next time I’m on vacation I truly need to check out a Dunkin Donuts just for the coffee.

Perhaps, one of the best things about this video is the music. The song is “I Only Have Eyes For You” by The complexions & The Flamingos. It is such a charming song, that really really makes me envision true love. True love for coffee, perhaps?

So if you’re looking for a cute break from your busy day, check out this video dedicated to the awesomeness of Dunkin Donuts coffee! Now, I really feel like I’m missing out!

Young generations might think that Starbucks created the coffee shop; they do seem to be on every corner. What this generation might not realize is that coffee houses have been around for many generations and in fact are rich in history. Coffee houses have been the home of politics, business meetings, local gossip and rendezvous meeting places.

Coffee houses originated in Europe in the 17th century and quickly became popular throughout Europe. Their popularity spread to America and these shops soon became the meeting place for people to come together and share ideas and opinions. Political meetings, business mergers and many other high profile decisions found their answer over a cup of coffee in the local coffee shop.

The relaxing atmosphere has been the birthplace to many songs, poems and works of literature. Many popular authors and songwriters started out writing and even performing in local coffee shops. In past years the coffee shop was often the venue for unknown talent to share their musings with other people. There were poetry reading nights and folk music night along with times of solitude for reading or quiet conversation among friends. The coffee shop has been something different to many different people.

Today, the coffee shop still functions in much the same way. There might now be as many with poetry readings or folk music but they are still the place of meetings and decisions. Executives often meet in the early morning hours to discuss their strategies and seal deal while politicians often visit to shake hands and seem more like the local person than a politician.

Writers and other artists continue to use the coffee shop as a place to let their brains relax and produce their masterpieces. Internet access is commonplace in today’s coffee shop allowing people to sit and enjoy their coffee while continuing to work and go about their day answering emails and shopping while relaxing in the quiet atmosphere of the coffee shop.

Today’s coffee shops offer more than simply coffee. They usually have a variety of coffee drinks and hot teas as well as pastries and even sandwiches in some cases. They often have comfortable seating areas including sofas and private areas for studying and work. Newspapers, magazines and free Internet access are considered the norm and are used to entice people to become regular visitors.

In addition to selling freshly brewed coffee, coffee houses also sell gourmet coffee beans and all the coffee accessories needed to brew their delicious beverages at home. Many coffee shops have a signature blend that can only be purchased at their shop.

Coffee houses continue to be the popular gathering place of the neighborhood. Residents can get their favorite brew and head to the office or grab a comfy seat and play hooky for the day while they indulge in Web browsing and coffee drinking.

A trip to a specialty coffee store is a day of luxury for the coffee connoisseur. This is not the local coffee shop where lattes and cappuccinos are sipped while reading the paper. This is the all-encompassing coffee lover’s must-have shop. Coffee accessories and beans of every kind can be found here and the true coffee lover can spend hours perusing the aisles for new gadgets and special coffee blends.

The specialty coffee store carries some of the top coffee beans from the best plantations around the world. They will usually special order beans if they don’t carry them in stock. In addition to regular coffee beans they also carry a large variety of flavored coffee beans and can get green coffee beans for home roasting.

The variety of coffee makers that the coffee store carries is immense. From single cup French press coffee makers to complex cappuccino makers there is bound to be a coffee maker to suit every household. Some people like to have a French press for one cup of coffee and a coffee maker for when they need more than one cup. Other people prefer to have a single-serve coffee maker that serves both purposes.

Milk frothers and steamers are available to create creamy coffee drinks without using a cappuccino maker. These can be small, individual appliances or simple speed stirrers to froth milk after it has been steamed perfectly in the microwave or on the stovetop.

Coffee grinders are another item that can be found in the specialty coffee store. These are available in automatic or manual versions from small to large. Coffee grinders can be burr conical or metal blade and can have a pulsating action or pre-set grinding times. Larger versions of the coffee grinder feature storage area for the coffee beans as well.

Along with grinders, customers at the coffee store can also find tampers to help pack the coffee into their espresso makers or coffee filter basket. Baristas know the importance of packing the coffee in tightly using the tamper and some have their own favorite one that is weighted just right for them.

Thermometers and thermometer clips are another important tool in making the perfect cup of coffee. While most coffee makers have preset temperatures, there are occasions when a thermometer is necessary, such as when steaming milk for cappuccinos and lattes.

Coffee stores carry practically anything that can be used when making coffee and more. There are scoops and specialty spoons, flavored syrups and creamers, mixing glasses and pitchers and dispensers of every size and shape imaginable. Homeowners and business owners alike can outfit their coffee area with everything needed to create a cozy, coffee haven.

The typical morning aroma of the local coffee cafe is a tantalizing blend of freshly brewed coffee and warm pastries. Patrons are enjoying their morning brew as they read the daily newspaper or chat quietly among themselves discussing the day’s events. Other’s in the cafe are enjoying the access to Wife and are surfing the Internet while business groups meet at another table to settle the terms of a big project.

These are the typical mornings found in local coffee shops around the world. Patrons are appreciative of the opportunity to stop and relax while enjoying their favorite morning java. Local coffee shops are often the morning gathering spot for many people and for many different reasons.

The popularity of the local coffee shops has grown immensely over the past few years. Whereas in years past there might be only one or two coffee shops in a community there are now many more. Coffee franchises moved into every town, often adding more than one coffee shop in an effort to corner the market.

Locally owned coffee cafes have had to become more creative and competitive in order stay afloat against these franchise giants. This has meant offering incentives to patrons such as free Internet access, a variety of daily newspapers and publications for their reading pleasure and in some cases a more extensive offering of food fare than they would normally carry, such as breakfast sandwiches and wraps.

Local coffee shops can also compete with corporate giants by offering coffee selections that the giants do not carry. Typically, franchises have set deliveries and menus across their franchises. If the locally owned coffee shop is able to offer more specialized coffees they can often take business away from the franchise. The Internet offers access to many different coffee bean suppliers that will ship small and large orders.

The average person in the community would rather support local businesses than corporate big-box companies who do little for their community. If local coffee cafes are able to offer fresh, hot coffees in a better variety with better customer service than can be found in corporate shops they will be able to outlast them despite economic trends.

The coffee cafe is a permanent fixture in most towns, whether it is locally owned or is a corporate franchise. People enjoy their morning coffee and the opportunity to relax and enjoy it will not soon go away.

Coffee shops are to coffee drinkers what the local bar is to the martini drinker, a place to enjoy their favorite beverage and social company. These shops are in the business of serving hot coffee drinks and the occasional pastry or sandwich. Some coffee shops serve hot teas as well as iced coffee drinks but they base their business on serving the best, most flavorful coffees in the community.

Unlike bars and restaurants where the atmosphere is often lively and loud, coffee shops are more subdued and filled with people more inclined to be reading, writing or working on their laptops. Well known authors have written their entire novel while sitting in the local coffee shop.

Coffee shops are often the site of business meetings with crucial decisions being made over a cup of steaming hot java. Most communities have one or more local coffee shops that are well known and frequented by many different social groups.

College students seek their coffee drink in order to keep them moving as they go from class to class while many mothers use the shop as their time out and place for a few minutes to escape. These examples are just a few of the many things a coffee shop is to different people.

The history of the coffee shop is as varied as the people who frequent it. In the United States coffee shops appeared as part of the immigration movement from Italy to the U.S. spread. These pastry and coffee shops were major places of business as they grew in areas such as Greenwich Village.

Later, the coffee shop became the scene for poetry readings and folk music. These shops gave these artists a venue to perform when they couldn’t find one elsewhere. Well-known performers like Bob Dylan started out in the local coffee house and made their way to stardom.

As years passed and the popularity of coffee grew immensely so did the coffee shop. At one point the growth of coffee shops was surpassing that of any other business. While this growth has slowed somewhat, the love of coffee has not. Coffee shops now offer free Internet access and access to the most read newspapers in the area, including the Wall Street Journal and other syndicated papers.
The popularity of the coffee shop has not changed much in the past few years. The major change has been in the variety of places they can be found. Churches are not incorporating coffee shops into their lobbies as a way to reach more people and get them into the building; local fast food restaurants are upping the ante by featuring coffee shop type beverages in a hope to cash in on the market.

The bottom line remains the same, coffee is, as the old slogan goes, “good to the last drop” and it hasn’t reached its last drop just yet.

Coffee house is another term that used for the coffee shop and has been around since the 17th century when coffee was first brought into Europe. The coffee shop has been a place where friends meet to catch up on news, businesspersons gather to make deals and others just go for relaxation or to meditate.

Some coffee houses have been the home to brilliant poets and musician who come in to share their art. Book readings, folk music and many other arts have gained their popularity first in the local coffee house and then later in the masses of the public. Many of these artists would possibly have not become major celebrities had they not had the stage of the coffee house to perform.

The coffee house is somewhere between a restaurant and a bar. It doesn’t typically serve a full menu but does offer lighter fare by way of pastries and sometimes sandwiches. It resembles a bar in that it is a gathering place that many people frequent often to socialize. No matter what classification the coffee house is put in, the fact remains that the popularity has risen immensely in the past few years and shows no signs of going away.

There are coffee house chains with popular names that most everyone knows and they offer some excellent coffees. However, some of the best coffees and socializing are in the local coffee houses that are owned and operated by a local community person.

These are the coffee houses where the latest news and even gossip are shared and where the best baker in the town, often someone’s Grandma, serves up delicious cakes and pies. The owner of the local coffee shop knows the competition of the giant chain is stiff and so goes out of his way to make sure and serve only the best coffee and coffee drinks with the best service around. Not many people would argue the superiority of some small coffee houses. They just can’t be beat by the corporate giant who only wants to offer things one way.

Both large and small coffee houses are conscientious of changes in the economy and have to find ways to work with it rather than be overcome by it. The competition from fast food restaurants and even the local stop-and-shop becomes fierce when finances get tight and people’s budgets can fit in a six-dollar cappuccino. This is when the shops must make concessions and offer less expensive options while at the same time adding social options to make their coffee shop more inviting than grabbing a cup of coffee and running out.

In order to accomplish this, most coffee shops offer Internet access, newspapers and magazines as well as cozy reading areas to relax while reading. These are excellent marketing tools for keeping the customers coming to the coffee house.

The local coffee shop or coffee house will always be around. There may be more at one time than at another but the promise of a steamy, frothy cappuccino will keep the customers coming and the doors open for as long as the coffee bean grows.

The local coffee shop has become a trend in businesses, it is hard to find a city or neighborhood that doesn’t have at least one, and most have two or more. These shops are often gathering places for friends or business meetings and typically offer various types of coffees and teas as well as pastries and sometimes sandwiches. There are various types of coffee shops, each with their own unique traits.

The sit down coffee shop is the most common type of coffee shop. It is usually spacious enough for sit down meetings and in some cases has room for entertainment, such as poetry readings. These coffee shops are often full-service coffee shops with well-trained baristas who have perfected the art of making many different coffee drinks as well as hot teas and specialty drinks. Some sit down coffee shops also have some sort of food option, typically pastries or light fare. Sit down coffee shops may also offer drive through service for customers who do not have time to get out and come inside.

The stand-alone drive through coffee shop is quite simply a drive through only. These shops do not offer seating options and are much smaller in size than the sit down coffee shop. These shops specialize in serving fresh, hot coffee beverages in a hurry. They offer customers the convenience of getting their morning java without having to take the time to park and go inside the shop. Some drive through coffee shops may offer pasties but typically they are coffee only.

These are the two basic types of coffee shops that can be found throughout the world. There are also coffee kiosks and coffee carts that operate as a sort of coffee shop. Coffee kiosks are usually found in malls and shopping areas, hotel lobbies and hospitals. These are sometimes scaled down versions of their larger counterparts. Typically, these kiosks offer only a limited variety of coffees and often no other product.

Coffee carts are mobile coffee shops that are often seen at the fair and other outdoor events like sporting events, where food and other fare are offered. Coffee carts are very limited in what they offer. Due to health regulations if foods are sold they have to be pre-packaged and their offerings are typically more limited than coffee kiosks.

The immense popularity of coffee has created a surge in the number and type of coffee shops that are in cities and neighborhoods around the world. Coffee lovers can grab a hot cup of Joe while on the go without going out of their way to do so.

Many entrepreneurs have taken advantage of the rising popularity of coffee and started their own coffee business. Some have been successful and some have not. The successful ones have all used the same general set of steps to get the business of the ground and on its way to profitability.

Before anything can be done to get financing or even sign a lease on a location there needs to be a business plan. This plan tells prospective lenders or franchise owners how the business will be set up, marketed, financed and other pertinent information that they will need to know before coming on board financially.

A good business plan can be written by the entrepreneur using templates and help that can be found on line. If this seems like a daunting task, there are companies who will collaborate with entrepreneurs to get their business plan professionally put together.

The location of the coffee business is the next important step in getting started. The coffee shop needs to be located in a high traffic area that also has easy access for vehicles to enter and exit. If it can be in an area where there is both car traffic and foot traffic that is even better. It should not be located next to or near another coffee shop. Competition is stiff enough without walking right into it by opening up next to them.

The name of the business is also important. It needs to be something that will stick in people’s minds. It should be something catchy that pertains to coffee as well. For example, the Soda Shop would not make anyone thing of coffee while Hot Java would definitely make people think of coffee. If coming up with a name is difficult there are marketing companies who specialize in branding and helping with names and slogans. It is worth the money these companies cost to come up with a name and branding plan to get the company established in the community.

After the business plan, location and business name have been decided it is important to recruit top-notch employees. Nothing can take a business down faster than rude, untrained employees who don’t care about customers. Customers will tell everyone they know about a bad experience while they might forget to tell anyone about a good experience. This is why it is so important that employees are chosen and trained to treat customers as their top priority.
Training is as important as picking the right employees. Set up a training program that cross trains all employees to do every job. Coffee shops don’t have a huge variety of jobs so it is important that everyone be able to pick up and take off with a task if asked to or if they see the need to. Customers will appreciate being taken care of without having to wait on the only employee who knows how to pull an espresso to finish up with their other tasks.

Finally, a successful coffee business will be run by good leaders. If the leader gives 100% then their staff will give 100% and those who don’t will be easy to spot and weed out. Earn the staff’s respect by stepping up and helping in all areas of the coffee shop.

The coffee business is a lucrative business if it is in the right location and has all the right ingredients to make it succeed. A good location, good employees, good leadership and the perfect name can all come together to create the perfect business.
