Welcome to Coffee Online!
I would love to start by welcoming you to Coffee Online and although this is an introduction of sorts to the site, I would like to offer you a little bit more than an introduction.
And what is that little more? I would love to offer you a trip to Guatemala, where you can pick your own beans by hand from the rich volcanic ash but I just don’t have that kind of budget. Instead, I will to offer a few tips on how to create the best pot of coffee to kick off my welcome to our site.
Grind your own: If you love coffee and want only the best, then I would recommend that you only purchase whole coffee beans. Then when you are ready to make a pot or even a cup of coffee, you only need to grind what you need. This will keep the flavor and aroma in your coffee beans.

Maybe it’s just a really good publicity stunt, but it seems that at at least one Starbucks (in Loveland, Colorado), the customers are paying it backwards, a concept that can frequently be found at toll booths.
But today’s tough times notwithstanding, it seems that the customers at a local Loveland Starbucks are passing the bucks at [...]

Those who know me know I spend a good amount of time at Trader Joe’s, where they have unique coffee and a chocolate selection that’s to die for.
It’s no surprise, then, that I have become addicted to Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans. The dark, smooth chocolate is the perfect balance to the slightly bitter espresso bean hidden [...]

While coffee might be best enjoyed by the cup, there’s another way to appreciate the bean it all its glory–by cooking with it.
And what better way to start than with the veritable coffee cooking bible, Sandra Gluck’s The Best of Coffee: A Cookbook, which features over 40 recipes such as Mud Pie, Mocha Brownies, and [...]

It seems that everywhere I turn these days, I’m bombarded with Peppermint (and Pumpkin, and Eggnog, and Gingerbread) Mochas. What’s next–Latkes Lattes?
Seriously, though, I tried my first ever Peppermint Mocha at Peet’s last week, and I have to say I enjoyed it far more than a regular mocha. Not sure if any credit can be [...]

Leave it to Trader Joe’sto come up with a reasonably-priced, decadent cup a joe in the spirit of the holidays.
Trader Joe’s new Gingerbread Coffee offers the taste of freshly-baked gingerbread cookies dunked in coffee, but without the cookies (and the calories!).
The blend starts with a bright mix of Colombian and Mexican 100 percent Arabica beans roasted to a smooth, [...]

If you’re at all interested in home roasting or big into DIY, do I have the blog for you. Ed not only works for a major coffee retailer (and the best, if you ask me), but also explores coffee roasting in his free time–in his garage at home.
From step by step instructions on cupping and roasting, [...]

The concept of Fair Trade refers to an equitable and fair partnership between consumers in North America and producers in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
One of the ideals behind the Fair Trade movement is ensuring that the vast majority of the world’s coffee farmers (who are small holders) get a fair price for [...]

I was in my local Peet’s over the weekend, and I was so excited to see that Peet’s Holiday Blend is back.
Each year, Peet’s Holiday Blend is crafted anew from outstanding crops that exemplify the best of the best for the year.
This year, Peet’s is bringing Tres Rios, Costa Rica, home. Tres Rios is nestled close to the [...]

The one-cup coffee maker has many benefits. Perhaps you are the only coffee drinker in your house, and you are tired of pouring good coffee down the drain because you made too much. Maybe you enjoy gourmet coffee, but do not have the time or inclination to grind beans for a full pot. [...]

Many people have heard the term, but not all of us know exactly what a French press is. Also known as a press pot, a coffee press, or a coffee plunger, the French press is perhaps the best way to get a stronger, more flavorful cup of coffee.

The French press normally [...]

More Coffee Tips
Storage is important: Whatever you decide to do, whether you keep coffee beans or simply buy ground coffee, how you store it will greatly affect the end result. Use air tight containers and never store your coffee where there are sharp aromas from other foods. The coffee will pick up the taste of the aroma, making it bitter, and you do not want a breakfast onion blend. Also, keep your coffee in a cool place. Many people use the fridge but it doesn’t have to be refrigerated.
The machine: You will want to have a high quality machine to brew your coffee. See our article on what to look for in a coffee maker to learn more.
The water: I have seen people really play around with the water that they use for their coffee. Some people only use the finest spring water available, others use a generic bottled water and others are just fine with tap water. All of them work and the only important element to creating a good cup of coffee is in the temperature you use. You might think that you need to use hot water to make your coffee but, the fact is, you should use cold water. For every degree colder, the water will have more oxygen. The more oxygen, the better the coffee.
